Shenzhen is a city of immigrants, where cuisines from all over converge. Chaoshan beef hot pot (Baheli Haiji), Cantonese morning tea/cha chaan teng, Hunan cuisine/Jiangxi cuisine (Shenzhen has many people from Hunan and Jiangxi), coconut chicken (Runyuan Siji—a Shenzhen original!). Shenzhen has no "local cuisine" but has every cuisine. Recommendation: international cuisines around Sea World in Shekou. Spice level: depends on which cuisine you choose.
