Seafood: First Market DIY seafood processing (Sanya's version of "Eight Market") is the most cost-effective! Or Chunyuan Seafood Square. Pitfall warning: Many "budget seafood" places recommended by taxis/pedicabs are rip-off restaurants! Must-eat: Wenchang Chicken (top of Hainan's four famous dishes), Jiaji Duck, Hele Crab, Dongshan Mutton, Qingbuliang (coconut milk-based summer cooler), Baoluo Noodles, Lingshui Sour Noodles, Coconut Rice, various tropical fruits (mango/bell fruit/sugar apple/jackfruit). Spice level: Hainan cuisine is not spicy! Yellow lantern chili sauce is a Hainan specialty but very spicy (add to taste). Flavor: Light and fresh, highlighting the natural taste of ingredients. Vegetarian: Good.
